Not everyone who seeks counselling wants long-term therapy. If you have a specific goal in mind, a short-term approach to therapy may work for you.

In many cases we can provide goal-specific short-term counselling. Short-term therapy consists of 10 weekly sessions with a specific focus.

Short-term counselling appointments are held weekly, just as with medium and  longer-term therapy. Short-term counselling keeps a specific goal in mind and focus on that goal throughout therapy.

As with all our counselling services your first appointment with one of our therapists will allow time to discuss your hopes in therapy and to assess your best way forward.

What to expect from brief, time-limited therapy

For those who choose brief therapy, specific goals in counselling will be agreed at your first appointment. Your initial consultation will be followed by 10 weekly appointments with a counsellor or psychotherapist, focusing on the goals set out at the beginning.

Together, you and your therapist will work on these goals and carefully monitor progress as the weeks pass.

Short-term, solution-focused counselling is also available for couples, within our couples counselling services.

Short-term counselling in Brighton is useful for many, though not all, personal issues

Though many issues can be successfully addressed with short-term therapy, there are some personal issues that require more in-depth and longer-term types of therapy.

We will be able to tell you at your first appointment whether your goals in therapy might be achieved through brief, time-limited therapy.

Though brief therapy is not suitable in all circumstances, short-term counselling has helped people with issues like stress and anxiety, mild depression, assertiveness problems, relationship issues, self-confidence problems and for some family or work-related issues.
